The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has stopped forex sales to Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in the country. Godwin Emefiele, governor of the apex bank, announced this at the end of the monetary policy committee’s meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. Emefiele said BDC operators have become a conduit for illegal financial flows working with corrupt people to conduct illicit flows and money laundering in Nigeria.

Former Nigerian senator, Dino Melaye took to his Instagram handle to blast President Buhari for attending the global education summit in London, IgbereTV reports. The Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday urged Nigerians to stop offering their officers a bribe. × They also urged the public to report any officer who demands a bribe. The two agencies were among participants at a one-day virtual stakeholder dialogue on “effective and sustainable strategies for curbing retail corruption” organised by the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC). PACAC Executive Secretary Prof Sadiq Radda said citizens have a critical role to play in ending petty (retail) corruption, most of which occur in form of bribery. He believes retail corruption can be reduced when citizens are law-abiding and comply with the rules, and when institutions play their roles effectively. Soldiers on Tuesday prevented traders at the Timber and Building Materials markets in Orlu, Imo State, to open for the day’s business. Most of the traders in the two markets had on Monday refused to open their shops in solidarity with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu,  who is facing terrorism-related charges at the Federal High court in Abuja. The soldiers, who were manning a checkpoint close to the two big markets in Orlu, barred the traders from opening their shops for any commercial activity. Our correspondent was told by the traders that the soldiers ordered the gatemen at the entrances of the two big markets not to open the gates. The Nigerian Law School, on Tuesday, revealed that 618 intending lawyers that sat for the December 2020 Bar final examinations, failed. The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isah Chiroma, made the disclosure after he presented a total of 880 successful candidates that were confirmed as lawyers during day-one of the Call to Bar Ceremony. Professor Chiroma said the successful candidates were part of a total of 1,561 students that participated in the examinations. Equally admitted into the Bar on Tuesday were 4 candidates from previous Bar Final Examinations. Unizik students protest tuition hike Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State on Monday protested the hike in school fees by the university authorities. The students who marched around the school premises with placards, later blocked the Enugu-Onitsha expressway for hours to register their grievances. They alleged that they were asked to pay about N500,000 as school fees for the session. However, the Acting Head, Information and Public Relations of the institution, Chika Ene, denied the alleged increase. It urged students, staff, and the public to dismiss the report as fake, targeted at causing unrest and destabilizing the peace being enjoyed in the University. The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has accused some higher institutions of mobilizing and awarding IJMB/JUPEB certificates to individuals, who did not attend their institutions. Gunmen have kidnapped 140 children from a boarding school in north-western  Nigeria , a school official has said, in the latest in a wave of mass abductions targeting school children and students .heavily armed criminal gangs in north-west and central Nigeria often attack villages to loot, steal cattle and abduct people for ransom, but since the start of the year have increasingly targeted schools and colleges. The attackers opened fire and overpowered security guards after storming the Bethel Baptist high school in Kaduna state in the early hours of Monday, abducting most of the 165 pupils boarding there overnight. “The kidnappers took away 140 students, only 25 students escaped. We still have no idea where the students were taken,” said Emmanuel Paul, a teacher at the school. Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspect for allegedly selling the body parts of his father, Michael Olagunju, to some ritualists in Kajola, Odo-Owa in the Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state.   Olagunju was allegedly murdered on his farm at Kajola last Thursday by his son who connived with some ritualists to remove Olagunju’s body parts, including his two hands and his heart. A brother of the deceased, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the family members were convinced that the suspect had a hand in his father’s death. “That is why we handed him over to the police,” he added.   The Police Public Relations officer in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident. A student of the University Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, has been reportedly killed and another shot in a supremacy battle, which erupted between two rivals cult groups in the institution. A source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent on Friday that  after the death of the student, a reprisal attack was launched by a rival group the next day. “A student from the Department of Geography was killed on Tuesday. But, on Wednesday around 5 pm, we heard some gunshots in the Department of Fine Art and on getting there discovered that a student was shot. “He was said to be rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he is undergoing treatment,” the source added.
